Nathaniel Welch is primarily interested in international political economy and how international markets, trade, finance, and other economic policies influence political relations at both the national and supranational levels. Previous research areas have included the cross-analysis and application of classical economic and political theories, specifically concerning the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, as well as topics in economic diplomacy, international trade regimes, and the role of international financial institutions in a continuously globalizing environment. Other research interests include international relations, foreign policy, and Japanese language and culture.
He graduated from the University of Waterloo with his Honors B.A. in Political Science, a specialization in Politics and Business, minors in International Trade and East Asian Studies, and a certificate for Japanese Language. He has professional experience with NGOs, private sector corporations, civil society organizations, and international financial institutions such as the IMF and World Bank.
