E-International Relations’ interview with GARI Executive Director Odessa Primus

“GARI is inventing a library, the internet of tomorrow—a massively comprehensive and real-time-updating source of information that is available to you in every capacity and providing any and all data. Research based on specific data in the context of all data globally can make for a well-researched policy recommendation, report on a situation or potential progress and forecasting like never before. What can be improved, and what we are forming, is the background research—our policies, actions and choices can be based on more than a couple of articles and someone’s opinion.”

Odessa Primus, GARI Executive Director

Odessa Primus, GARI's Executive Director is featured as one of the 28 voices of Europe sending a message to the EU Heads of States about an open and free Europe without internal borders in the German Huffington Post.

Her message:

"Europe is a continent of common history, where people suffered and prospered together, and, in the end, aided one another in a system celebrating our common values. Borders instil a feeling of apprehension and distrust in our neighbours, whether it is legitimate, false or manoeuvred. Openness and freedom are a fundament of security, prosperity, and growth. We need to be pursuing innovation and take advantage of the momentum created by the positive voices of Europe."

GARI's executive director is involved throughout the EU, and is passionate about improving our society. In March 2018, the development of Odessa Primus's Go Think Initiative was covered in an article by the EU Commission's European Development Days program.

"Being named a Young Leader has had a strong impact on Odessa's professional life. She is now often invited by the European Union as an expert to discussions on refugees, especially on how best to protect vulnerable women and girls."

On March 19th - 20th, 2018, GARI's Michal Kořan attended the high level Politico AI Summit in Brussels.

The Summit was the first global leadership roundtable centered on issues at the intersection of innovation and governance, the launching point for solutions-driven conversations between policymakers, scientists, innovators, industries, startups and academics.

During the one and a half day summit, the following questions were addressed: How do we differentiate beneficial vs harmful AI? When do best practices and standards suffice, and at what point – or for which applications or industries – must governments apply regulation? What enforcement framework will global leaders construct to ensure rules are respected? Will the competition for dominance in AI development eliminate or exacerbate gaps in access? Where shall we even begin?

On Europe’s to-do list: save the Iran deal, prevent a war, avoid Trump’s wrath

A future Democratic president may be unable to save the Iran deal

"The Iranians aren’t confident that the Europeans can make up for the loss of oil revenue — oil sales to Europe are now down to zero, while total E.U.-Iran trade in the first quarter of 2019 is down almost 70 percent year over year. “What is our demand? Our demand is to be able to sell our oil and get the money back. And this is in fact the minimum of our benefit from the deal,” an Iranian official told reporters on the condition of anonymity."

EMPOWERMENT, NOT FEAR

On December 1st, 2017 the Aspen Institute published a text by Michal Koran titled Empowerment, not Fear which summarizes the fundamental normative principles of the Global Arena Research Initiative.

Motto:
"There is a far-reaching transformation just ahead, and the world will likely be greatly surprised by it. But if we look—and act—carefully, we can ensure the surprise is a pleasant one."

IN NOVEMBER, MICHAL KORAN CONTRIBUTED TO A VISEGRAD INSIGHT MAGAZINE 11/2017

VISEGRÁD AND GERMANY

"The economy is recovering, unemployment is low, positive dynamism in Europe is resurfacing and there are political movements that are already able to frame this dynamism in political terms. The risk of not recognizing this as an opportunity is nothing less than allowing new divisions of Europe to creep in."
